Unable to pair IKEA Matter devices to HA

Has just been through the same with Ikea-bilresa-E2489-matter. The companion app says ‘setup’ forever until it times out. Selecting ‘More options’ under Add accessory it shows the e2489 device. And if you add a wrong password/key it also says so, but it newer connects.

Doing it at the ‘server’ with matter integration - options - add manually, adds the device in a few seconds.

Have no clue what is wrong, but this works… And the E2489 button - works fine.

I got to 21 Matter/Thread devices connected, then all of a sudden couldn’t add more. Spent a couple of days with Chargpt and gemini, no joy. Then I moved the HA green and the ZBT-2 to the other end of the house - away from the Unraid NAS. Voila, all is good:)

Only issue now is a rouge external router!

Probably your TBR…

The message associated with it is “This device appears in Thread neighbor tables but is not commissioned to this fabric. It may be a Thread Border Router or a device from another Matter ecosystem.”
So physically which device?

Right… but it should show as a minimum your TBR with the dotted line, and since there are no other dotted lines, really nothing else it can be.

So physically which device?

HA OTBR w. ZBT-2

Thank you. That helps a lot!

Running your suggested command solved the issues for me (both DIRIGERA and Appletv4k as border routers running HAOS on a rpi) thanks.

Why would someone want to turn of ipv6 forwarding?

Was not intentional, My understanding is that what was routine underlying Docker version updates in HAOS resulted in stricter or just different IPv6 setting expectations from HAOS 17.2 docker for container networking, so what has been working for the last several years unexpectedly broke in a way that was not discovered during beta testing.

Pairing Thread devices with Home Assistant sure can be difficult. Pairing depends on a lot of IPv6 networking under the covers, and some networks don't have perfectly functioning IPv6. Here's a pairing technique that bypasses some of the protocol steps. It's simpler and faster, and it works with all of the (many) IKEA devices I have.

Use your phone to do the pairing, but when you get to the step where you're supposed to scan the QR code, don't do that. Instead, select "use another method", and manually enter the Matter pairing code using your keypad. Now let the pairing proceed. It should take about 60 seconds.

I used to have endless trouble pairing Thread devices until I started using this method. Now it nearly always succeeds on the first attempt. On rare occasions, it takes two attempts, but that's the worst I've experienced.

Using HAOS with ZBT-2 . I have had minor issues off and on but have over 30 IKEA devices paired and virtually no dropouts. When I have problems adding a new device to my network, I put the new device within a few inches of the ZBT-2 and it almost always works. I have not had very good luck with commissioning devices scattered throughout the house.

came here to confirm, don't use QR code use pairing code, worked first time.
