Unencrypted backup download should be discouraged

Well… with all due respect, but since HA and this forum is free and open-source don’t expect anyone to “inform you about anything by itself” - you must do it by yourself.

I think that each new user must “make his homework” by his own and find how and why certain things work the way they do, but mostly it’s because majority of users want’s that. Yes, sadly it’s huge forum and it requires A LOT of reading. I guess that’s the price to pay if you use a free program. HA is a huge “program”, too.

Since you say you’re a beginner, it’s not exactly a smart idea to instantly start to open FR’s (especially requests which has already been done and implemented), but rather do an extensive search and read existing topics, or simply ask without FR - that’s what i did, and it worked in the past, and it still works: when i don’t know something i always do an extensive google and HA search before asking here. I think that …roughly over 70-80% of problems can be solved by searching. Note that HA has become a huge thing and it will take time for you to fully understand it.

Opening FR is meant to developers and has only effect if majority wants that, otherwise it’s just needless ballast for dev’s to read.

I use HA over 5 years and i have yet to open my first FR, for example…

As i said, i mean nothing bad, i’m just explaining facts. :innocent:

i did not say i was a new to HA, but i stated we should be welcoming to new users. not everybody is as good in searching or knows the “rules” as good as you. but stating to new users, RTFM is not inviting…
As a IT security professional, i have some thoughts about security and secure backups is one of those elements, and yes in my daily job i see that the majority of users do not appreciate the security measures which need to be implemented, i suspect that more or less the same sentiment is the case here.

just stating the facts, as i see them,

have a nice day, enjoy!

As an IT security professional, it’s part of your job to educate the users at your place of employment to the benefit of a proper backup strategy and enforce it based on the employer’s requirements. Here, the developers initially provided a simple option, then without warning, changes it to a system that did not easily allow for the way people actually use the backups that they make.
