Unstable (defective?) IBS-TH2 (temperature and humidity)

Hi,

I am using esphome (latest version) as BT gateway for following sensors:

  • 4 MiFlora
  • 4 Xiaomi LYWSD03MMC, located in different places of my apartment
  • 2 IBS-TH2 (temperature only), located in the freezer
  • 2 IBS-TH2 (temperature and humidity), located outside apartment
  • 3 BT tags

Whatever the location of the 2 IBS-TH2 (T&H) I am loosing the connectivity with them with no clear pattern and I am observing them for more then 2 weeks!

  • I moved them very close to esphome gateway (both and each one)
  • I changed the batteries
  • I stopped (remove batteries) of one
  • I tried their monitoring with OpenMQTTGateway
Every time I change or remove batteries the sensors start transmitting but after a while they stop. Sometimes they start transmitting again, but for maximum 1 day.
To be even more strange, one of these was working perfectly 1 year ago when it was installed in the freezer.

Does anyone experienced this? What could be the reason, except defective sensor?
Is it any method to update their firmware? I didn’t find something.
Note 1: I purchased them at one year distance.
Note 2: using Engbird doesn’t help; when esphome doesn’t receive from them, Engbird isn’t able to connect

Thank you

I have had one IBS-TH2 fail, but it’s a hard failure, no comms at all even with battery change. Otherwise mine have been working just fine. What are you using for the BLE gateway?

esp32doit-devkit-v1

So no ethernet? BLE proxies do work better if not having to use WiFi. Not sure how that would impact a specific device, but I have ethernet connected proxies.

Your description sounds like hw problem. Use nrf connect app to verify.
