Upcoming eWeLink Smart Home Add-on for Home Assistant

Hi everyone,

Some of you who have followed eWeLink for a while may remember that we once released an official eWeLink integration for Home Assistant - here’s the old post.
That add-on allowed users to:

  • Import eWeLink Cloud supported devices into Home Assistant
  • Sync Home Assistant devices back to eWeLink Cloud for remote control

Later, this add-on stopped receiving updates and support.

We’re excited to let you know that we’ve decided to bring it back !
Our team is developing a new eWeLink Smart Home Add-on for Home Assistant. We’ll continue improving it and releasing new versions to support more of the latest eWeLink-supported devices.

Here’s what will change with the new version:

  • :white_check_mark: Support for more eWeLink devices
  • :x: It will no longer sync Home Assistant devices back to eWeLink Cloud
  • :arrows_counterclockwise: We’ll provide a migration path from the old add-on to the new one — after migration, the old add-on will no longer be supported
  • :package: All releases and updates will be available on GitHub, along with community support

If you have any questions, ideas, or feedback , please share them below. We’re listening and would love to hear what features or device support matter most to you.

Thanks again for being part of the HA community!

I had no idea this addon existed.
Installed it and I still can’t control my L1 lightstrips.

This might be why…

Great news…I think. My only eWeLink devices are simple Zigbee switches, and they work fine via ZHA. So I don’t think this directly impacts me today.

Does this mean that eWeLink WiFi devices will run totally locally, with no cloud or app requirement?

Here on this forum we often steer new users away from off-the-shelf WiFi devices, because almost all of them require committing to the manufacturer’s app and cloud ecosystem. It would be great to be able to offer them alternatives.

Using eWeLink WiFi devices in the new add-on still requires you to log in to your eWeLink account. This means that eWeLink WiFi devices are not fully disconnected from the cloud. However, when the eWeLink WiFi devices are on the local network, they will be controlled locally through the LAN, even if you have logged out of your eWeLink account in the new add-on.

That’s disappointing. It would have been great to have a totally local, of-the-shelf, WiFi device on the market.

Any idea when the add-on will be available?
