I was having an issue with one of my wall panels, so I took another tablet (Samsung Tab A8) and set about to find out what was going on. Well, it turns out that logcat was showing the app resetting on its own and creating an issue with my security camera displays.
A quick email to Alexey and he suggested upgrading my software from 1.48 to 1.58.
Now as I didn’t want to completely restore all my settings and automations by installing the new apk as a fresh install, I searched all over to see if there was an easier method of installing the upgrade. I mean there really should be some way of doing it.
After searching for some time I came across a posing in reddit from a couple of years ago. It described how to do it. Although the author suggested doing it from within the Home Assistant Fully Kiosk integration, it is actually easier to log in to the remote admin. (Note: the Fully license is necessary). When one opens the select admin command you will notice a command that says “Install apk from url”. You must now go to the Fully Kiosk Help page that lists the various apps. Copy the link for the most recent apk and paste it into the url box and hit Go. It will require you to provide input on you tablet but the rest works really slick. When it is finished it will reboot the app with your new software installed…Easy Peasy!!
One note: If you download the app on your original install from Google Play this upgrade option is not available.
This process is not explained on the Fully Kiosk website. I have asked Alexey if they would provide it on their website.
Hope this is helpful to others needing to upgrade their software for Fully Kiosk.
Good post. I discovered the same thing. I installed from an APK and was wondering why the play store was not updating. Also remote admin in. FK is fantastic.
