UPS and NUT micro-outage detection

Hello!

I’ve connected and set up my UPS (Ellipse Eco 1600) on my Raspberry Pi with Home Assistant using the NUT integration. I created an automation that sends a Telegram message as soon as there’s a power outage.

It works when the power loss lasts a few seconds (I’ve configured NUT to refresh the sensor every 10 seconds). However, when it’s a micro-outage, or it lasts less than a second, the sensor does not detect the state change.

Is it possible to have a real-time or near-real-time state change?

Thank you in advance

Welcome!

From my experience, you are going to have to spend some serious coin to observe fine power issues. In order to see these type issues, the monitoring device needs to sample on the order of thousands of sample per seconds. And that is where the price goes up. UPS’s and the USD 10 price point energy monitor plugs and such sample at at best 10’s of samples per second, often less. And at that rate much is missed.

Good hunting!
