USB Speaker phone responds to Voice Assist with really fast speaking audio

Hi All,

Been dabbling with HA for a couple years now. Pretty familiar with the majority of it and having a blast diving down the rabbit hole.

I’ve got a USB speaker phone device which connects to my HA OS instance through proxmox and have forwarded the USB port just fine.

I’m having trouble where the response to a voice command (which I presume Piper creates the audio) is played back very quickly. It initially sounded like a blip, but when I set Piper addon length scale to 10, I can actually hear the distorted audio is playing. It sounds terrible, almost like a bit rate mismatch.

HA see’s and configures the USB Chat 170 sound device in Assist Microphone Audio settings. Voice assist and whisper/piper are installed with Wyoming Protocol seeing all of the following configured;

  • Assist Microphone - 1 service and 8 entities
  • openWakeWord - 1 entity
  • Piper - 1 entity
  • Whisper - 1 entity.

All of which are default settings (apart from testing with piper length to 10 to slow it down enough to figure out if there was actual audio being played).

Has anyone experienced USB audio playback to voice being played so fast that it’s a blip of sound? Could it be Bit Rate settings? and if so, I’d have no idea where I could play with those?

Any ideas would help out…

Cheers,
Ramjet
