Hi everyone, I would like to connect the zigbee usb dongle away from the raspberry, physically connect the dongle to a usb charger to put it in a room that is away from the raspberry. Can I do it? Does the dongle communicate with the rpi via wifi? Thank you all.
Maybe. Some can connect via network (wifi or wired). It depends on which model zigbee dongle you have.
You need to provide more info, especially regarding which specific zigbee usb dongle you have.
Most usb zigbee dongles don’t support wifi. The ones that do support wifi also support wired ethernet, so there are very few scenarios where you’ll actually need wifi anyway.
Your best option in this case would be to get a “hybrid” coordinator & migrate all your devices to it. Something like the SLZB06 from SMlight or the Dongle M from Sonoff should do.
Mine is a pre-purchase investigation. Home assistant runs on Rpi but for convenience and reception I would like to place the zigbee coordinator in the center of the house.
In light of this, which model would you recommend? If necessary, I can connect it with both WiFi or POE.
Always thanks for the help.
P.s.:
I’m actually migrating Home Assistant to Synology Nas using Docker.
They are build to order so you might have to wait a couple of days.
thanks everyone for the advice.
