Using alexa to set scene hit and miss!

I have setup Alexa into HA and she can call a scene for bedtime, which is basically all lights out.

When I initiate it, Alexa says “ok” and then the lights go out… or at least some of them do.

Seems totally random, could be any of the following happens:

  1. Bedroom light goes out, Hall stays on
  2. Hall goes out, bedroom stays on.
  3. Both go out

Same with all the lights. Sometimes success first time, they all go out. And sometimes not. I can ask her again, and she may get the remaining lights second time. Earlier I had to ask 5 times! If I cue the scene from the companion app on my phone, it seems to work each time.

Alexa has been added directly into HA, I’m not using nabucasa. I assume that the message gets from Alexa to HA and then HA sets the scene? But that conflicts with being able to do it from the companion app.

So what could be going on? And is there a more dependable way I can set it up?

FWIW I have a morning scene too, that turns on 2 lights and the kettle, and that’s (so far) seems to work consistently.

Please clarify which method you are using to expose HA to Alexa.

IIRC, at one point Amazon restricted “goodnight” and/or “bedtime” to the Alexa.GoodNight.Play sequence… so, maybe, there’s some kind of clash going on with that. Is your HA scene just called “Goodnight” or “Bedtime”? You might need to use the full “Alexa, turn on Goodnight” trigger phrase.
