I have an (old) Insteon switch which controls two wall sconce lights. This works great in HA. Now I’d like to replace the filament bulb with Govee LED color bulbs and use them for a sunrise simulation.
The problem is that the Govee bulbs, like all LEDs, need 100% power to run, so I need to turn on the Insteon switch to start controlling the bulbs to simulate sunrise. Unfortunately this “on” from the Insteon switch cause the Govee bulbs to wake up and turn themselves on which ruins the idea of a slow sunrise. Creating scripts/scenes to turn on the Insteon switch and immediately turn off the Govee bulbs is often too slow or unreliable.
I suspect this is due to my using an Insteon switch, but even if I replaced it with another brand, like a Kasa, wouldn’t I just have the same situation when the bulbs get power? Or should I use another bulb like an Philips that I heard can be powered on and still be set to 0% brightness? But then how would the switching the Insteon switch “on” turn on the bulb when I human uses the switch?
Somebody must has solved this Catch-22.
TIA,
Dave
