I like the direction of Home Assistant with the addition of areas and persons. Now, when I setup my areas, it became apparent that you can only have one are per one device. It’s something that annoys me with all the other smart home apps.
I want to be able to have a light bulb be a member of multiple areas and not just one. I think modern architecture doesn’t allow for the strict division of multiple areas. For example, we have a large living area that would include the traditional living room, the dining room, the kitchen and another niche for reading/relaxation. I would want to create four areas, but also have one area combining those four.
Did I miss something and this is actually possible?
I configured my own esp8266’s (tasmotas). One of them controls the light of the half bathroom downstairs and the lights on the dinning room. I have 3 relays attached, two for the livingroom and one for the bathroom.
If I go to the livingroom light entity I can change the area to “livingroom”, but when I go to the bathroom entity and change the area to bathroom HA changes the area of livingroom as well.
Not sure if I even have the lingo correct. One device (tasmota) can have different entities (relays, sensors, etc) correct? So why does the area have to be set up for the device (ie all entities have to be on the same area) instead of allowing each entity to belong to its own area?
I would love this too. I have an esphome device with lots of sensors on it. i would love for them to have accurate areas, instead of 9 doors showing up in my laundry room (location of physical device)
