Using Philips Hue dimmer and Hue bulbs directly

Hello,

I have a Philips Hue bulb, that is integrated via ZHA, so I can switch in on and off with Home Assistant. I also have Philips Hue remote dimmer, which I use with this bulb without HA nor Hue bridge.
I can see this remote in HA and events it fires (pressed buttons, battery level) but it has no automations at all.

I have another Hue bulb and remote dimmer which I wanted to pair the same way, but everything I try fails.
I integrated them with ZHA and then tried direct binding with holding the ‘on’ button on the remote while holding it very close to the bulb, which I think is what I did before - but it doesn’t work now.

After number of wrong instructions from ChatGPT, it now it says > "Newer Hue firmware disables Touchlink binding once the device is network-joined unless the coordinator explicitly supports Hue’s private commissioning cluster.

ZHA does not implement this cluster.", but this seems to be pulled out of thin air as all the devices were bought the same time and show the same Firmware…

Is it possible to use remote dimmer with bulb independently from HA, and still use the bulb in HA? Or have I configuted it somehow accidentally?

Give this blueprint a try:

Thx Bob, but I’m looking for direct pairing, independent from HA, and understanding how it works.

you need to look at ‘bindings’ in zha per device. I would recommend creat a group for bulb you want to control and then bind the dimmer to the group. PLs Note, not all zigbee devices play nicely in this binding setup.

Hi Sander, thank you for your reply. I am aware of bindings and if I won’t find the way I did it last time, I will facilitate them. I just really want to learn how I was able to do this before and why it is not possible now. Thanks!
