Hi everyone,
I’m using a UniFi G3 Reader Pro (UA G3 Pro) as an outdoor access reader.
The device has a built-in motion sensor which is used to wake up the display when someone approaches.
What I’d like to achieve is to use that motion detection inside Home Assistant to trigger automations, for example turning on outdoor lights.
So far I couldn’t find a clear answer and wanted to ask the community:
- Is the motion sensor of the G3 Reader Pro exposed via UniFi Access or Protect APIs in any way?
- Does it generate any events that can be consumed by Home Assistant (via the UniFi integration, HACS integrations, webhooks, etc.)?
- Has anyone successfully used the reader’s motion detection as a trigger in HA?
- Or is the motion sensor currently only used internally by UniFi and not exposed at all?
I’m aware that UniFi Protect cameras expose motion sensors nicely in HA, but it seems UniFi Access devices behave differently.
Any insights, workarounds or confirmations (even if it’s simply “not possible right now”) would be very helpful.
Thanks a lot!
