Venetian blinds DIY

Hi all,

I’m having venetian blindes which I want to:

  • Pull up and down
  • Tilt the blades

There is some room in the cover above the blinds itself, where also the mechanic for the tilting and up/down control.

I found some solutions that are working out of the box (Somfy, etc.) but the are quite expensive.

I want to control the blinds with buttons (where for example the right pane is for tilting, and left for up/down. Like the buttons below:

As a motor I am thinking of two of these:

  • 1 for up/down
  • 1 for tilting
I want to create/print a 3D-case for them, so the fit inside the top-cover of the blinds.

I also see that I need a driver for this:

And also need to manage it through a Arduino board or ESP.

Alot of thinking work to be done, and alot of difficulties to overwin.
Now I’m curious… Are there any solutions already which can do this (not talking about Somfy :)) I also heard that KNX has something that can do this, but I also don’t have a KNX solution.

Or are there solutions of people around here who have done already the same I want to do?

Hi, you don’t need to reinvent the wheel!
I have seen at least 1 DIY project here but cannot find it right now.
It was quite extensive with 3D prints shared and a lot of testing.

If I bump on it, I will share it here.

If you have skills to mechanically build that, I don’t see problems for the rest.
Esphome would be my choice here. It has component for A4988 stepper driver.
For the tilt you could use servo.
