Version '1.10.6' of NetworkManager is not supported

Hi, I’m really lost. I was on my Home Assistant web panel and saw a notification for an update. I clicked on it and tried updating and then it said that my system was unhealthy. I thought nothing of it until I reloaded the page and it was no longer working. I checked supervisor logs and saw something that caught my eye:

ERROR (MainThread) [supervisor.dbus.network] Version '1.10.6' of NetworkManager is not supported!

I checked my supervisor version and it was updated to 2022.5.2 but my core was still 2021.4.6.

Now, I wanted to avoid further conflict so I tried downgrading my supervisor back to 2021.4.3 but it doesn’t let me saying:

ha su update --version=2022.4.3
Error: No supervisor update available - 2022.05.2

I don’t know what’s going on.

Also, I’m running Ubuntu 18.04

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My supervisor log.

You’re trying to do a supervised install in an unsupported OS. Ubuntu has a lot of things different from debian, network manager is one. Would recommend trying a supported installation method

I understand but I’ve been using Home Assistant for quite some time now and it’s been working fine. I don’t have the luxury switching my OS now so I was hoping you guys could help me out here.

Sorry, no idea, that’s what unsupported means. HA interacts heavily with the underlying hardware and host OS. Since it knows that is supposed to be either stock Debian or HAOS it freely adds dependencies on features it knows should be there in those two OS’s. Ubuntu isn’t either of those and so may or may not have something HA now depends on in any given release. Seems like you hit one of those.

I could have written this post a year ago. I was also running Home Assistant on Ubuntu and kept running into this error.

The workarounds only worked for a while, but it was getting to the point that I couldn’t make any changes or updates to my Home Assistant. I also did not want to change my OS, so I just bought an Intel NUC i3, added RAM and SSD, then flashed the Generic X86 image of Home Assistant OS. Wow. compared to a Raspberry Pi, the NUC was supercharged. Highly recommended. I bought my NUC new, but you can find an i3 or even an i5 on eBay for less than $100.

If networkmanager is not supported, then you can use other methods to manager your network connections.
Ubuntu has all the old ways still.

The hard part is to untangle networkmanager from all the settings and then set up the network with whatever other method you choose (better choose one that is supported ;))

I see, how can I backup my Home Assistant configs and data and dashboard through the CLI?

It’s documented in the common tasks.

Try to type ha and hit enter.
If it can then it explains it
