Hmmm, doorbells…
Are there any that work ‘well’ with Home Assistant??
Recently purchased a blink video doorbell, hoping I would be able to set it up with HA, but… obviously not! (Unless there are some tricks I haven’t been able to find..?) Can’t even get the “press the doorbell” notification? Well, without jumping through hoops.
Are there any video doorbells that just work, and can be setup with an automation to perhaps, send a notification/video through Google to a speaker/hub? (and preferably not ‘overly’ pricey…) Have a lot of Tuya stuff - able to use locally.
Also, as an aside, are Blink devices totally useless? Slow, poor config, expensive to get them working properly, Alexa, etc..
Thanks.
I have 2 Reolink doorbells. The Reolink integration works really well and has lots of support. They also work really well with Frigate, if your looking at using a NVR.
Search HA forum. This has been answered A LOT in great detail and the answered haven’t changed in 3yrs
I alsways give same answer
Any POE (WiFi optionally but POE is best) doorbell mounted to cover person at door
Connect existing button to esp32, optionally have esp32 wired to door chime/bell
Trigger sending image of camera to phone or other from esp32 button press
Trigger an IOT announcement or bells/chimes from button press
Trigger from object detection(person) or camera motion using video from camera. In case person arrive but not push button
2way is still possible as cameras(like Reolink) have mic and speaker. Adding speaker is also possible utilizing small ic amp connected to the esp32
Actually since you have esp32 you can add mmw to detect person at door or simple motion sensor.
I never had need to talk with person at door and only cared to know arrival and identify person. For this reason I like this approach better since camera is less obvious and video doorbells are ugly or not local in many case
Yes, have seen the esp solution, but do not want to have to do this, if there is a more “off the shelf” solution - a mix of laziness and lack of knowledge!
Thanks anyway.
I’d go with Reolink. Many people use them, and I don’t see any complaints. I have several Reolink PoE cameras (though not a doorbell) and I would compare them to Shelly’s products:
Local, “automatic”, high-quality integration with Home Assistant
The devices are quite decent and affordable
I use an Akuvox intercom myself. It’s also local and integrates well with HA, but not for the lazy (it requires manual configuration and integration).
Next question…
If I purchase something like this can I directly use it with Home Assistant, and setup automations to also chime on Google speakers/hubs, without purchasing additional, or doing any “electronic” modifcations…?
Thanks.
And…
Will the Reolink work by itself with Home Assistant, or do I need a HomeHub/HomeHub Mini
And if you do get a HomeHub, does this have any other benefits/uses?
Thanks, John.
