Is it possible to make a dumb doorbell smart by using a virtual doorbell in HomeKit?
If yes, how can I do this with Home Assistant?
The goal is to make the HomePods ring and to notify me, ideally through HomeKit.

Yes, Frenck has a blogpost on this and there are quite a lot of posts about this. Did you search the forum?
Haven’t found anything regarding HomeKit. It would have to be supported by the HomeKit integration.
Would you mind explaining how the HomeKit part is important for you or what your expectations are, since you can expose entities to HomeKit from HA and vice versa. Doorbells are supported, so if you make a dumb doorbell smart with e.g. ESPHome, you can then expose it to HomeKit.
The idea is to make the HomePods chime.
I already have a doorbell switch that is integrated in HA, so if I could make a „helper doorbell“, I could integrate it in HomeKit.
The helper part is the key.
Did you ever find a solution to this? Having this issue now
I’m also looking for a solution where a Zigbee switch (Aqara WXKG03LM_rev2) can be a virtual doorbell to chime certain HomePods/ put a notification on Apple TVs. We have a house split by a door and I currently use the switch to play a Doorbell “Song” on the HomePod, however the delay is quite long.
