Voice Assistant with IKEA SOLSKYDD and Respeaker Lite

You all know the Respaker Lite or at least you can find everything about it…

Then I bought an IKEA SOLKYDD… interested because it has a 3.5mm audio input for the Respaker.

The SOLSKYDD has Bluetooth connection, Optical and with 3.5mm input. I tested the audio only on Bluetooth and I can say that it is quite mediocre. Absolutely not good. Acceptable perhaps for a bedroom. Maybe when paired with other SOLSKYDD the sound is slightly better due to the three-dimensionality… but the musical extension is not good at all.

So I wanted to convert it into a voice assistant with the ability to still play music via the network.

I removed the front panel and opened it.

There is a lot of space to use…

With a drill I made holes in the front for the microphones and the led and and I glued the Respeaker with hot glue

the SOLSKYDD board has two 24V leads so I used a step down converter to bring the 5V to the Respeaker:

I connected the 3.5mm cable and made a hole in the back so it could reach the SOLSKYDD input.

I closed and screwed everything… and everything works perfectly. As mentioned, the musical audio is not great… but for a small room it’s fine.
It definitely needs improvement… maybe I will also add an LD2410 presence sensor in the future.

I love it! Are there any interferance from the ReSpeaker that is audioble from the speaker? Buzzing and such. What step down did you use?

No, no interference for now.

Only problem… if you have a blackout you have to turn the SOLSKYDD on with a button.

I don’t have any blackout problems at home but this can be fixed… yesterday I added an ESP32C3 with an LD2410 inside. You can clearly see the movement through the plastic.

The Step down is in the photo.
It can handle 4.5 to 28V.
