I’m moving my HAOS to a dedicated mini-pc that has a microphone and speaker. Is there a way to make the machine that the OS installed on act as a voice control box? As in, do the wake-word listening, listen, and respond, like the the voice preview puck does.
Similarly, is there a way to do this with tablets? I have a couple android tablets as fully-kiosks, and it’d be great to be able to use them as wake-word listening voice assistants.
My wife really prefers voice control, and I’d rather use the devices I already have than to buy a bunch of voice pucks.
Yeah, I don’t think I want to get into the way Voice Input will be installed. It would be nice to use the hardware built into the mini PC, but no biggy.
The project you shared looks really promising. I hadn’t heard of it before.
The Voice devices are a lot nicer than using a microphone. Just be aware that running a high quality TTS makes a big difference for most users. I didn’t find running Whisper on a mini pc acceptable, and I blamed “the crappy Voice PE microphones” for several weeks.
Also, your wife should be aware that responsiveness is far behind Alexa in some areas.
