Voice Preview: "Hey Jarvis" not recognised (in German)

I am a new owner of the Voice Preview device, but I cannot get it to recognise me saying “Hey Jarvis”. The other two wake words work fine, but I can’t get Hey Jarvis to work.

Are the wake words affected by the locale? I use German language so I don’t know how I am expected to pronounce Jarvis, although Mycroft works fine when pronounced English.

I speak English (with a New Zealand accent) and I too cannot get Hey Jarvis to work.

Think Texas. You’re German so this should make sense.

The J is Dsch… Like Dschungel
Ar is American not like arzt. Not ‘ah’ ‘ar’ and Don’t roll the r.
V like in Vater
Is like wissen
Jahr-wis. Where the vis is short and staccato.

Thanks for the advice, I will try different pronunciations and report back.

Interesting, have you tried different pronunciations too?

I pronounce hey like hay.
How else could I say it?

From Google:-
The word “hey” is pronounced with a short “e” sound, like in “hay”, and is often used as a casual greeting or to get someone’s attention

It’s less about the hey and more about the Jarvis
“Hey Mycroft” works fine for me, pronounced what I think is English

Same issue here in Germany. At least it usually does not work at the first attempt.

I’m German and I have this issue too. OK Nabu works best for me. But I don’t like it much.

It’s the same for me (also Germany), Hey Jarvis works sometimes, Okay Nabu works best.

Same here. Hope this is going to be improved in future releases in sense of it would accept more variations.
Would be also very cool if they would add a Jarvis like voice

Fun story here from Austria (so sort of german ;-))
“Hey jarvis” works perfectly for me, but me wife gets refused 95% (although she doesnt speak it any different from me)
It’s a bit of a showstopper at the moment

I used “Ok Nabu” but it was triggered often, when someone said “Ok” in TV.

I tried “Hey Jarvis” but voice never recognized it. So I had Google translate pronounce it for me, after I tried that pronunciation it worked most of the time, but worse than “Ok Nabu”. Honestly the pronunciation of “Jarvis” is somewhat strange and feels wrong. I must really concentrate to do it the right way, I am sure I would get used to it after some time, but its not worse the effort because I am now using “Hey Mycroft” and that seems to work fine out of the box.

I’m a native British English speaker and so is my girlfriend.

The Voice Preview Edition refuses to wake when my girlfriend speaks any of the wake words, we tried all three and it has a 99% failure rate, its unusable. She absolutely hates it, the preview edition literally just ignores her.

She is also a native British English speaker with a local accent. I have no idea how bad it must be for people with a little bit of a non-native accent.

All of the wake words work 95% of the time for me, my girlfriend pronounces the wake words exactly as I do but it doesn’t work.

All we can do is submit recordings and pray that the wake words are updated so our girlfriends / wives will not be ignored.

Seems like Hey Jarvis is the least refined option? Myself and my partner both have California accents and still have trouble with it activating consistently in a quiet room.

Same issue here. :frowning: My wife is getting ignored from Voice Preview Assistant. For me it work in 85 - 90% of the time. That’s ok but not so nice as well.
I thought it’s an issue with my device or configuration.

Same issue here in austria (also kind of german  ).
I have an Sattelite1 from futureproofhomes.com which has an excellent mic array!

When setting “Hey Jarvis” i and my wife will be ignored.
Because of that (and lacking of time) we have not used the speaker much.

Will try other wake words, but i dont like them.
SURE we want to use “Hey Jarvis” :joy:

I stopped caring about Jarvis from the beginning, using “Hey Nabu” works most of the time and I got used to it.
But now we know that names that might be pronounced differently are not a good a idea to used as wake words.
