Voice Preview - Stop timer

Hi Team.

I have had the Voice Preview for a few months and i am really trying to use it with the hope of ditching Alexa, especially with the news that all processing will be sent / stored with them.

Now apart from asking Voice Preview to turn on and off devices which it seems to do with not much drama. The one thing that stops the wife from using it is timers.

We can ask the Voice Preview to set a 1 minute timer. When the timer goes off no matter what we say we can’t get it to stop the timer and we have to press the button on the device. This will be no good as we would love to mount ceiling.

So what are we doing wrong. Surely Ok Nabu , stop timer would be the command?

Hi Craig, using the wake work should stop the timer going off.

Thanks for the reply.

No matter how many times i say Ok Nabu STOP nothing happens. Even just saying OK Nabu does not cause it to respond to my next word of STOP. The timer alert just keeps going and going

Have you tried just saying “stop”?
This is a separate wakeword model that is triggered when the timer signal is turned on or at the voice response stage.

Hi. Yep

Ok Nabu … STOP or just asking it to STOP. Neither make the timer actually stop.

It’s very frustrating

Timers SUCK on VPE. They need a complete rewrite, so I wouldn’t waste too much time on them. I’ve written volumes on the subject and even started a rewrite, but it’s above my pay grade… the ESPHome team needs to collaborate with the HA team and fix timers.

Until that happens we’re SOL.

I agree timers do suck. But I don’t think this is timers. This is wake word not responding. Because if the stop wake was responding as it’s supposed to (it exists op it’s totally supposed tk stop on wake word including the special stop wake)

So you’re fighting a wake issue from a troubleshooting perspective. And I believe it Mines pretty good on Nabu but fact is I hate it. The Jarvis detection is… Ok, and in our house Mycroft is awful at false positive… I really don’t like any of the wake words and my custom one absolutely sucks at detection so until I get a build of one I like it’s pinch nose Nabu. And in a noisy environment I hit the button.

Yeah, I know. But, even if he could stop the timer, it would still suck.

As much as I want to turn off all my Alexa units,we’re just not there yet. Yes, we’re Miles ahead of where we were a year ago, but there a ton of work still to do. It’s not realistic to expect an entire household to relearn how to give commands, change music providers ( Pandora support) use different wake words (Alexa), give up the timer features (actual responsive control and HA support), etc, etc.

The Futureproof Homes Satellite 1 is vastly better than VPE in terms of wake word detection & speaker output, but it suffers from the same limitations. And VPE is just that - a “preview”

It’s a waiting game. This stuff is hard to do. And we all want it now
