Water cop hardware replacement

I am upgrading my home that has been automated for 15-18 years. One area I am updating is the water shutoff system. I currently have a Dynaquip Watercop classic. I am looking for a replacement I can use with my new Home Assistant instance. I would like to leave the existing ball valve connected to the water line but open to replace everything else. Any suggestions?

Current configuration is stand alone in that the water cop isn’t integrated into the house automation system that I am replacing.

and connect the water sensor to esp to monitor water leak.
You can set esp to run and function independent of HA.

The ball valves with motor are sold seperately as well if you feel you need to replace but if it still function just change the tech running it to esp

What’s the point if the motor is not broken?

there is likely none but thats why I put “if you feel you need to replace”.

It is not likely ball valve failed but who knows
motor may be failed and finding replacement may be hard
some people just do things to be doing things.

I dont know so I give info and let them figure it out.

I agree. Different people “feel” different ways.

The ball valves work fine if I go to valve and manually press switch. I was looking to put it under automation control. I was trying not to build a hardware controller board to enable to connect the valve. There is a listing of the 4 lines which can be accessed through a cat wire connected through an rJ45 connector. I really wanted to see if I could find something that came working out of the box so I just had the work an integration. It looks like I can replace the entire assembly with something like a Frizzlife LP365 and use the Tulo? integration. This would require me to cut existing valve out and replace. I was trying to be minimally evasive if possible.

Have you ever played with esphome?

I can do the same type of wiring with the original water cop. While this is within my capabilities I am 68 and will sell the home within a few years after my grandchildren grow up and leave for college. I am already concerned that there doesn’t appear to be any easy way to transfer a smarthome to a new owner with all the accounts the hubs we are creating for these entities. I am concerned that adding “owner built” hardware as opposed to “commercially available and supported” will be a liability for selling my home as opposed to an asset.

So priority is to find hardware that is commercially available and supported for this capability. It would be ideal to find a product with direct integration capability to Home Assistant and not require a 3rd party hub that is injected between local control and the entities.

You can control that with Shelly uni for example.

Thanks I will research that one.

Thanks for the direction. It looks like the following product will allow me to connect existing valve assembly to home assistant and meet all the other desires. It looks like I can send the signals to control the valve. I will get one and see if I can figure out if it can give state information for the valve in addition to allowing me to turn it on and off.

Shelly 1 Mini Gen3 | WiFi Smart Switch Relay 1 Channel 8A

Shelly 1 will work as well, but you would need two of them, one for each button…

I ordered one before I read your message. I will get it in my hands and play with it. Looking at schematic I think I understand your 2 device comment. I learn faster when I actually try to wire device.

I appreciate your patience going through this with me,

You can wire Shelly relay I/O for 6/7 or 5/7 (open or close).
Remember to set up “auto-off timer” for ~1s.

Thank you.

When sell home it is new owner responsibility to use, replace, or request solution in buyer contract.

I would not discuss unless asked. It just cause confusion and anxiety. It’s like discussing the doorbell or blinds.

When move you can leave some document with basic info about product. If you wanna tell them how to cut grass it’s OK but ultimately it not your responsibility and they need to manage or hire Gardner. Grass was green when you moved out.

Esphome device should be set to be independent of HA and work indefinitely. If it break it’s normal home maintenance. If they unplug I presume it just wont turn off water with flood which is no different than if it was never installed.

You are probably correct in theory. I have a very expensive custom home and the expectations of buyers of this type of place are much higher. I can obviously not say a thing and walk away. I personally want to make it as easy as possible for anyone who follows us to enjoy our home as much as I did. Especially since it is a planned event and doesn’t take any additional effort on my part when I am in the design stage.
