Water Heater: Bradford White

Please email my work address [email protected] @bntrarn ! Would appreciate your feedback in testing!

I just had one of the newer generation Bradford White heat pump hot water heaters installed. It’s an AeroTherm G2.

This newer generation appears to have a different connectivity module (now built-in) which uses the new Bradford Wave app.

I noticed that the unit does have a port on the front of it (see photos) and it seems that two of the pins are for an RS-485 connection. Does anyone know if it is possible to communicate with the water heater using GEA2 over this port?

Upon further investigation it looks like the CTA-2045 port pictured in my post above is to support a utility energy management device. Unless GEA2 is an extension of that protocol, which is unlikely, it seems unlikely that we would be able to communicate with the water heater through that mechanism.

However, on the water heater’s control board it looks like there is an additional RS-485 port. Perhaps this one supports GEA2 or some other communications protocol for talking to the water heater?
