I have a 7 inch Waveshare touchscreen I’m going to use as a livingroom clock/display. I was intending on adding an IR Receiver to control a few things using spare buttons on the TV remote. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any spare IO. Adding an IO expander won’t work because apparently the remote_receiver: component won’t work on one.
I’m wondering if I can repurpose any of the IO pins that are dedicated to any of the buses I’m not going to be using. There’s CAN, SD Card and RS-485 that I could cannibalize from. I’m using the I2C for some other sensors and it’s needed for the screen so we can’t touch that.

I’m OK with cutting board traces and soldering wires to the board if needed. Just looking for a second pair of eyes on this to see if I’ve missed something easy or this just not advisable.
