What are people using for indoor PIR motion for greater than 16ft or 5m. I have some smart things and one or two Hues, and they are great, but they all advertise a maximum distance of 15-16 feet. I’m looking for something not HUGE, for wall mounting that can get to 20 feet reliably.
Mine cover 20’ easy . Specs say 30x50’ Ecolink. Not special it is fairly standard I think.
In a room > 16’ in one dimension I would expect it to disappear into corner. The hue and smarting unit tend to be square type which are ugly and mount on post. Look at standard PIR that do not mount on post for better appearance. You may also wallpaper or paint to match.
I change battery on heavy use rooms once every 2yrs. I have notification that sends battery levels <40 % daily but I am amazed battery on zwave last so long. I’m a “wire everything “ type but concrete walls made this impossible. My PIR are also set to “test” so there is no limit to triggering or battery savings so battery life is great even under heavy stress.
The models you mention are designed for small spaces. Look to other brands and more standard “security” style designs
Not-a-PIR? Mmwave is better at detecting non moving humans. Lights turning off until you wave your arms are also not something most people can appreciate. The only downside is they also react on things like moving fans etc.
Basically immediately. I have automation for lights in a room. Walk in room and light ON after 0.5 second delay. Its response is a dame as light switch press in HA.
