What gets kept after host reboot?

I suspect this is a newbie question. As a last resort I’ve occasionally needed to do a full host reboot. When this happens all my recent changes to config and add-ons seems to be lost. It appears to revert to some unspecified point in the past. Is this the intended behavior? If so, what is the best method of backing up everything? And as an aside, how does Hassio determine what state to restore to after host reboot? Thanks.

You may lose the state of some devices (depending on their capabilities) but apart from that you shouldn’t lose anything. I’ve only seen this problem myself when my SD card became faulty. It was no longer accepting writes to the disk, and therefore everything was lost on a reboot.

Thanks for the reply. That does sound likely that the SD card could be the culprit. I can put it in another machine and check. What’s the best way to backup current state to restore onto a new SD card? I tried the snapshot feature but that just seemed to revert back to a blank installation when restored. Though I suppose that could be down to the SD card too?

Copy the config directory to another computer before you shut it down

It was indeed the SD card which was faulty. Thanks for the pointer in the right direction @Sitrate. Copied everything to the new SD card and all working normally again.

No problem. Glad you got it sorted. If the card is less than 12 months old then get it swapped out. I’m doing exactly that.
