I have a Tuya button next to my bed, that supposedly , when activated, sends a message to my family if I feel ill.
Unfortunately it does not work well, Any suggestions of a well working battery operated device (Wifi, Zwave, Zigbee, Matter) ?
With those criteria’s I would say a phone and a button/script or whatever on the home screen.
But I suppose you have already ruled that out?
Battery operated that may or may not have reception and/or battery is tricky. A phone at least shows if it’s on and if it’s working (most of the times)
That I’m aware of, no FDA registered Personal Emergency Response Systems (PERS) buttons integrate with HA (or anything else). All of the ones you can get have layers of software / integrations to get to and out of HA
If it was for me or my loved ones, I have a lot of confidence on yosmart/yolink products. They make battery rf remotes. Very reliable and I use their LoRa rf products for my smoke/co sensors including station calls, sump pump monitoring, others. Very stable and reliable rf as well as a well supported integration.
Wireless buttons can do fine for this if:
- the networktechnology you are using (WiFi, Zigbee, …) is reliable
- the battery life is decent
I have a few of these: Sonoff SNZB-01 and I’m really amazed of the battery life.
I have several of each of these and they work well and battery life is good.

The remote can stick via magnet to the provided wall plate or be used away from the wall plate as a remote. I keep some of them on my nightstand or coffee tables, other stay on the wall plates unless guests want to have better access to switch at bedtime.
I have a few of these Aqara WXKG11LM control via MQTT | Zigbee2MQTT and they work fine.
The battery life is good.
Many thanks. All good ideas and I’ll one of these option.
