I have a 1/2" copper pipe into which I plan to insert a manual ball valve. I know Zooz has a Z-Wave device that will cycle the valve. I’ve also looked into US Solid solenoid valves that can be operated with various ranges of vdc or vac input, and purchased in either normally-open or normally-closed configurations… but since this is an indoor application, I’m not sure I want to use a threaded connection.
I’m looking for any & all Z-Wave and Zigbee (or, maybe other) options for automated isolation of a 1/2" copper water line, either by actuating an existing valve or inserting a new valve. Thanks!
I’m using the Zooz Titan. Sure, I’d rather have one with a built-in ball, but $300 for a plumber and then the condo management telling me I can’t modify the shutoff, I figured I would try the Titan. It works smoothly every time. Need to make sure pipe diameter is compatible and that there is physically no impediment to it turning. I like it very much. Lots of Home Assistant entities, battery backup, and it has it’s own water sensor that I’ve simply made part of the water sensor group with about 10 Aqara water sensors.
I use non smart electric valves, industrial quality rate, and drive them with a Zwave switch. I run 3 of them on my hottub and one for warm water shutdown.
This is proven to be super reliable for three years now…
Can you be more specific about brands? Going this route is how I landed on US Solid, but I’d like to know if there are others (especially that can be sweat-connected).
Thank you–I’m interested in the same application, a NC valve that will close when power is removed. In my use case, freezing conditions are guaranteed and this valve will isolate the water supply to an outside faucet.
I have read that the power to actuate the valve in a “power-off” condition comes from a capacitor that is undersized in some devices… which means the valve doesn’t get adequately moved due to lack of electrical power.
For this reason, and because I’d like the ability to quickly open or close the supply manually, I’m leaning toward a device like the Zooz Titan.
