My most useful automation deals with going to bed at night.
As soon as HA recognizes we put our phones on the chargers, then:
All lights turn to night mode (dim and bluish)
TV and entertainment system is shut-down
Lock all the doors in the house and ensure garage is shut
It then announces over the bedroom echo:
a) Time the alarm is set
b) schedule for the next day
c) Weather for the next day
d) And tells us goodnight
waits for 5 minutes for us to settle in bed
Turns out all lights in the house
Silences any motion on the outside cameras that are not identified as human
Sets the Thermostat to our sleeping temperature
Sets the Alarm
We use this automation every single night. If for some reason, it does not immediately recognize the phones are in the chargers, we have a button on the back of headboard that initiates this automation as well.
It doesnât know i am standing up, but it knows that there is movement in either the Kitchen or the toilet using the motion sensors in those rooms.
While this is not the best implementation as if someone else enter one of this rooms your movie will pause, or if you have pets at home and they wonder around, for me it works because i watch movies alone when everybody sleeps.
Ideally if you can have a pressure sensor on your sofa (If you search âBed Sensorâ threads you will find what i mean) it would work much nicer.
I live in an appartment building on 3rd floor and I put a door sensor on my the flap op of my letterbox downstairs near the entrance. If the newspaper arrived, I got a push message at my phone. Otherwise I have to walk downstairs to check it constantly.
Half an hour after sunset, my curtains close automatically. I uses the official sunset times, and not an extra sensor.
I use a smart plug adapter to Automate my Dog Water fountain to turn on and off at certain times so my dog doesnât fill his bladder before he goes to sleep and pee pee lol
