Some mmWave radar sensors will tell you how many people are in a zone. or rather give a list of targets and tell you the zone each of them is in.
Maybe I am missing something, but if using the sensor to control lights, all I need to know is if the number of people in a zone is zero or more than zero. I treat 4 people in the zone the same as if only one person were there.
The multi-zone feature is easy to understand; you can treat each zone as a room and control lights independently. But why would I care if there are one or two people in a zone? I don’t see why the radar bothers to report this.
So maybe I’m missing something? Does anyone have a good use for the “person count”? Is there some creative way I can use the person count?
I can’t speak for certain, but I suspect the number of entities being reported is more related to the number that it can track and when it supports multiple zones, that would effectively be the maximum number of zones that it can report as being active at a time.
So say your device allows you to defined a maximum of 5 zones, but it can only track up to 3 entities. Then if there happen to be 5 entities that are visible, with one in each zone, then 2 zones would not be getting reported on.
That’s just how I look at it when I see something like this. You’re basically just getting a look under the covers more with the sensors that are being reported to you.
Alternatively, maybe you actually care about the number of people that pass through a given zone (your keeping tally) that could b useful knowledge if say it’s an entryway hallway to another location that you know can support a maximum number of people. Having count knowledge could help you in developing automations to manage the number of people in the adjoining area.
Mmw is used for things outside turning on a light. In those case knowing the count may matter.
5 people enter shared workspace
3 present in conference room A
2 present in conference room B
This same situation occur for 30 days. Different qty of people but always A and B used
I see this data and decide I can reduce cookling to room C or reduce cleaning to room c. Also begs question of what popular about A and B or maybe what’s up with C
But yeah, also turn off lights when they all leave
Visitor or entertaining mode, i want my home to behave differently when i have guests. multi-person tracking allows me to accurately enter and exit visitor or entertaining mode.
