When I'm away from my home the home assistant screen is blank, is it normal?

Actually it says it cannot establish a connection, what is high unlikely being it wired to the router. It seems to connect to a specific IP address, but of course the ip address might change, is there no possibility to link the Home Assistant green in some more virtual way?

This is what is possible with any other smart home device, how to do it with Home Assistant?

The easiest way (and to support the devs) is to subscribe to NabuCasa.com (HA Cloud) which auto-configures everything safely for you - there is a 30 day trial.

…you can also do it for free using things like Tailscale if you want.

You can even make a port forward in your router.
But this opens your network for attacks

You mean in your own local network?
In that case you assign HA a static IP in your router settings.

No according to their topic title.
