When you want to find the right device, what is the very first thing you start looking for?

What I’ve seen a lot of people here asking for, is a “master list” of everything which works with HA.

Frankly, I don’t see it happening. That would require a very large and complex database. And it would be constantly changing. I imagine it would be a full-time job for several people, just to keep up with what’s currently being manufactured, not to mention firmware updates for things already in service.

And it would only be of value if there were a way for users to create reviews, and of course users would have to know how to, and want to, make those reviews.

Much of that has already been done. It’s called Amazon. Search for the type of device and protocol you want, and you get a list of devices. Open a bunch of tabs for the devices you think look good, and search each one for the words “Home Assistant” somewhere in the description and reviews.
