I want to hear about your experiences which inverters and batteries are the most simple to integrate into Home assistant?
The project i want to start up is the following.
Problem:
I want to buy a home battery but also have an EV.
I’m afraid when i buy a battery and i charge this at the cheapest hours (dynamic prices) the battery will be drained out.
Goal:
I want to have a set up where i can detect when the car is charging and when this is the case, i don’t want my battery used.
I’m thinking to buy a HUAWEI inverter and battery but i don’t know someone has already done some integration with the Huawei Sun 2000 4.6KTL-L1 and huawei luna2000-10-s0?
I would like to achieve when the car is charging, the battery doesn’t give any power.
I can get the info from the EV charger (zaptec GO) and/or the car.
Question
Which are the best solutions to integrate an inverter and battery
(which brands,…)
So I know Fronius and SunGrow and read into Huawei.
If you can afford to buy non chinese I would go with Fronius because it has a core intergration with the built in REST API and a modbus (sunspec) interface, which can be activated with the installer password (be sure to get this). You can combine the inverter with a BYD battery without worrying about the hardware, because the battery is not connected to the cloud.
SunGrow has a bad modbus connection and it has polling issues when refreshed too often, but when you do get a SH…(hybrid) because it has a seperate LAN for modbus. Using the “Cloud Stick” is even worse.
The huawei solution is less or more tricky depending on the model.
All would work fine within home assistant or EVCC, as long as you can connect to your wallbox.
There is also a “hardware placement” solution if you just want to achive just the battery saving, which is to place the wallbox connection between smart meter of the inverter and the normal electricity meter. Then the inverter doesnt recognize if the wallbox uses power. That come to the cost of PV charging.
We have a Solaredge inverter and battery. It’s completely controllable through Home Assistant using the excellent
As for discharging the battery into the car battery, with Solaredge you can shut the battery off when you’re charging the car battery to prevent that from happening.
