Which speaker to buy?

Hello, I am looking for a speaker for my kitchen and bathroom that would fit into the HA ecosystem. The speaker is only needed to play messages, e.g. door open, and to play the radio. I do not want any smart speaker. I am considering a Denon Heos speaker, but it is quite expensive. Perhaps you have suggestions for something else?

If you are in anyway DIY capable and cost is a real issue consider an ESP32 based media player on the back of any speaker or old radio you already have. This is the way I have gone by converting my collection of vintage radios. This is becoming very capable with the new sendspin protocol being developed. If not diy then consider HAVPE as it has an aux outlet which can be used for an external speaker.

As ever there are always 100’s of different ways to do this and everyone will have their favoured way. I am sure you will get a long list of recommendations

I already have one HAVPE and I think it’s the most sensible purchase. You can always add a speaker, and for the price of HEOS, I’ll buy two HAVPE speakers. Although they could have released a version with a better speaker. That would be the best equipment available on the market. Although when sitting on the toilet, the quality of HAVPE is perfect.

see here. gives you a solution without the voice stuff. And a bit more cost effective. Not tried them myself but have considered them.

HA Voice PE (best support / easy / pricey)

Waveshare AI voice S3 (cheap and decent quality)

Atom echo but get a usb speaker and remove atom speaker and connect place inside and connect. I did this and sounds great. (DIY but cheap with good sound)
