Which Z-Wave devices do you own, what do you use them for and where did you buy them?

Hey all!

I was wondering which devices you’ve got and how you use them. My home is currently a bit lacking in the “smart” department, so I was wondering what is available and used.

Besides that, do you know the best place to buy Z-Wave devices? I am located in the Netherlands and I can’t find that many shops and devices. Eventually I could buy them in the EU in general, or worldwide if they are compatible with an Aeotec Z-Stick.

Thanks in advance

If you’re in the EU be aware that you have to use EU Z-Wave devices - there are regional differences.

A quick Google for zwave europe found many suppliers in mainland Europe. Vesternet is a UK based supplier that ships to the rest of Europe (and beyond), and even Amazon stock Z-Wave devices.

Hey,

I currently have a fibaro wall plug (ordered from alternate) for measuring my washing machine, a neo coolcam pir and a fibaro dimmer 2. In the Netherlands some good shops are robshop.nl, alternate.nl. However i often find amazon.de a bit cheaper.

If you don’t mind waiting for a bit you can also order the zwave products of neo coolcam from aliexpress etc. Just make sure you buy the eu version like @Tinkerer said.

Doesn’t the Aeotec USB stick support all regions? Or is that not how it works? :stuck_out_tongue:

Do you like the stuff Fibaro makes, especially the wall plug? I’m currently looking to switch from TP-Link HS100’s (Wi-Fi) to a Z-Wave alternative because for some reason the Wi-Fi plugs disconnect sometimes.

HI,

I’m using Neo Coolcam light switches and door/window sensors. Bought them on Aliexpress. Work like charm with the Aeotec Z-Stick.

Not even close

Yeah the fibaro plug works. However, I use it for my washing machine and for some reason it measures peak wattage of 3000 and then shuts off (my washing machine is rated for 2200w) so I can’t use it for that. But another plug probably won’t work either.

Had the neo coolcam power plug first but after a week it died. Maybe also because of my washing machine or just bad luck.

I’m in the UK and successfully using the Aeotec Z-Stick (Gen 5). I bought in on Amazon UK. The radio frequency used in Europe is different to the US which is why you need to buy European devices.

I’ve also bought from Vesternet, mentioned above.

I’ve got a couple of Philio Tech 4 in 1 door sensors, which are OK for temperature and the door open/closed state, but I’ve never really got motion sensing working reliably.

One door has a cheap Kaipule door sensor, which also works fine.

I do have one smart plug as well, but have largely moved to the cheaper 433MHz RF ones using rftrx.
