Why did HA shut off my water

Yesterday HA turned off my water and I don’t know why. I do have moisture sensors and an automation that turns off the water main if there is a leak detected, but that did not happen. The logs don’t show any sensor detecting water. The automation should also send an email and a notification if triggered and that did not happen. The log shows the water main being turned off but not what instigated the action.

If there is no context in the activity log (e.g. “by automation xxx” or a username) then it happened outside home assistant.

Some devices change to a default state if they are disconnected from the Zigbee network.

What zigbee valve do you have? I have a Sinope Sedna and if you have the flow sensor, it’s got a setting that will shut the valve after so many minutes of flow (all outside of HA). I had to change the setting on mine, as it would shut off the water when my irrigation system was running after a few few hours.

Without logs or context or even the automation itself, and take this as a guess until you provide us these things,

POSSIBLY you restarted HA and the sensors reset to unknown or unavailable, which if the automation was written improperly triggered the automation to close.

That’s a shot in the dark without more info, but something to check.

It’s not the automation. We have already established that from the lack of context in the activity log.

From what a couple said above, it looks like it was manually closed (outside of Home Assistant)–does it have a button on it? Did you figure out how that happened?
