Why do I lose access to Lovelace "Overview" if I set a default dashboard?

I want to set a more customized dashboard as my default when accessing the HA mobile app from my Android phone so that I can just open to it rather than having to start with Lovelace “Overview” and then navigate to it.

However, doing this seems to lose access in the left menu to the default Lovelace “Overview” dashboard which at times is still useful as it contains all my entities.

Is there any way to set a different default without losing Lovelace “Overview” from the left nav menu?

It’s not that you lose access, the link is hidden. I use a button card’s navigate option to get to it from my mobile dash.

Is there any simpler way to “unhide” it?
It’s not obvious or clear to me why setting another default hides the original default. It should remain on the menu list just like all the other dashboards

I think you Navigation_path is wrong

Hello! This is a per-device setting, so you can have a different dashboard set as a default on your phone, your pc, tablet, for each household member’s device, etc. I have HAOS and I don’t lose access to lovelace Overview; just make sure you aren’t “taking over” the overview dashboard.

  1. Create the dashboard that you’d like to use, if you haven’t already.
  2. Make sure you’re on the device that you’d like the dashboard to be tied to.
  3. Go to the dashboard you wish to default to and on the top righthand corner, click on the Edit Dashboard (the pencil icon).
  4. Click on the 3-dot menu in the top righthand corner to open the Dashboard menu.
  5. Select Manage Dashboards. You should now be looking at a list of available dashboards.
  6. Click on the dashboard you wish to use as a default, and in the pop-up window, choose Select as default on this device.
  7. Lastly, click on “Update” to save your selection.

Repeat the above for any other devices’ dashboards that you wish to change.

You can also set some dashboards to be accessible to Admin users only, so kids & guests can’t mess things up too badly. lol

Bonus - you can set up a different dashboard for different people in your home. (i.e., think of kids or visiting grandparents turning on your bedroom lights at 3am while you’re asleep. lol) To do this:

  1. create the person’s login & leave the acct as an admin for now
  2. follow the above dashboard default steps on their chosen device
  3. Once their default’s been set, go back to your admin acct and remove their admin access.
  4. As an added measure, I’d log their device out of & back into HA with their acct, to confirm admin-access has been removed & that your admin acct isn’t still on it.

To unhide any hidden dashboards, click & hold on the “Home Assistant” title of the sidebar for a few seconds. It should let you edit the sidebar, and you should be able to hide/unhide the Overview dashboard.

I’ve had that there for a few years. I believe I originally had it without the ip:port but it wasn’t working right.

@puterboy that’s the easiest way I know to re add it.

My point wasn’t about creating my own default dashboards.
My point is that by setting another dashboard as default, the helpful Overview dashboard disappears from the left sidebar.
Even if I don’t want to use it as default, the Overview is still actually quite useful!!!
This truly makes no sense and is a real “WTH???”

You can find the explanation to that if you click on your Overview dashboard from the Dashboards panel:

So, that is the intended behaviour. You can use custom-sidebar to add a custom Overview dashboard in the sidebar.

Another thing that you can do with custom-sidebar, is to let your Overview dashboard as the default one but configure default_path to your customised dashboard in your Android phone.
