Tonight I transferred my HA to a new machine (restored from backup) and to make sure the transition was a success, I made a few spot checks. One of those checks was to look at my location on the Map. When I did so, the Map opened to an unzoomed display of the entire United States, with my home location in California and a letter “i” in Washington DC.
When I zoomed in on the encircled “i” it eventually revealed an “irk:xxxxxxxxxxxxx” next to it on the map. Many will know that an irk is (at least in my case) an identifier for an iPhone. I use the irk of my iphone to track its location with ESPresence, so the irk is saved in my secrets.yaml. Here is the image zoomed in to the level just before the irk is revealed (I didn’t want to have to white it out, so I didn’t zoom in all the way). The “i” is in Washington DC, at the White House.
I took a page out of your book and filtered entities that included “irk”. This gave me my device_tracker.mosquito_broker_irk_xxxxxxxxxxxx entities (four, for the various iPhones in my family). And when looked at the details of the one in Washington DC, it showed that it was in the Master Closet. I don’t have a Master Closet location for ESPresence, and I never have. It looks like somehow my ESPresence is getting mixed up with someone elses, who presumably has assigned their location as the White House in order to conceal their real location …which seems reasonable right now, because somehow our lines have crossed and I know they have a Master Closet.
@tom_l You’re a wizard around here. Can you make sense of this? I don’t have any cloud services enabled, no Nabu Casa. I only VPN into my HA. I haven’t been to Washington DC in decades. Clearly, someone set their HA location to the White House and is using ESPResence, and our lines are crossed. I don’t know how this could happen, but I cannot think of any other explanation.
Edit: It’s late and I’ve been working on this HA transfer for a while. Forgive me. I think it stems from the ESPresence add-on not having transferred properly. I’ll take a look tomorrow.
ESPresence is working fine with my bluetooth beacons on my keys. It must be the irk. None of my IRKs are working right with ESPresence. It’s late. I’ll look into it tomorrow.
I still don’t know why this happened (still happening) but I just disabled the entities and I’ll ignore the issue. Here is what I do know.
My ESPresence config GPS coordinates are set to the White House. This is the default setting in the config file. I have not modified any of the config below that point. So, all of the default rooms and floors are unchanged. This is why there is a Master Closet; it’s the last room on the second floor of the default config. I just use the names of the Nodes my phone/keys are connected-to to know what room they’re in.
So, perhaps this is why. Perhaps I need to properly configure ESPresence and properly name my rooms and such in the config file. I don’t know if/when I’ll get around to doing so. I’m happy just to disable the entities that are showing IRKs in Washington DC since there are separate MQTT-Room-Presence entities for my phones that do work properly.
