Google is killing software support for early Nest Thermostats

The company is also pulling Nest thermostats out of Europe entirely, citing “unique” heating challenges.

Some of us do understand why we want local control.
We want to own devices that we bought.
Without local control company that sell device own it, weather someone like it or not.

this thread title is a pretty poor introduction to the actual subject of nest devices shutting down.

At least they now have every reason to give all the specs to the public so that the public can make out of this piece of work esphome based thermostat that actually works.
