Today I decided to turn an older iPad I had lying around into a remote control for HA. Since it’s a 5th gen iPad it can only update to iPadOS 16.7.12.
Here’s my HA setup details:
- Installation method: Home Assistant OS
- Core: 2026.1.3
- Supervisor: 2026.01.1
- Operating system: 17.0
- Frontend: 20260107.2 - legacy
- Companion app: 2026.1.1
After installing the HA app, I noticed that in the list of widgets on the Home Screen and in the companion app settings in the HA app no widgets are available, not even the option to create them:
I have tried looking up documentation to see if it has to do with the iPadOS version but couldn’t find anything. Does this have to do with the “legacy” frontend version? Can I update this on an older iPad OS?
