Wife acceptable Cc2530 power socket zigbee router

Hello,
I wanted to share my verion of Zigbee router. The idea is standard Koenkk router (https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/how_tos/how_to_create_a_cc2530_router.html) but I did not like his case. I’ve put it into a a bit better enclosure:

The enclosue itself is Kradex Z-27 (amazon: https://www.amazon.fr/Enclosure-power-supplies-Y120mm-KRADEX/dp/B07H2Q5KL9, botland: https://botland.com.pl/pl/obudowy/6971-obudowa-na-zasilacz-plastikowa-kradex-z27-120x71x45mm-czarna-z-gniazdem-i-wtykiem.html):

The CC2530 and power supply are soldered to a board like this:

See that power cables are soltered squere to fit better. Also CC2530 pins are accessible if I need to flash it again.

All is mounted using hot glue:

And a final “product”

Its good enough to be accepted by my wife

Including a source or part number for that case would be a good idea.

Nice. It seems there is even space to add a relay to the outlet.

I love the project case! Very clean and compact.

Does anyone know of something similar for US-style power outlets? (Or have the lawyers made such a thing impossible here…?)

Your power supply diesn’t have any current or temp fusing, over current protection etc.

Sorry that was a bit cryptic, I was on my tablet and couldn’t find the thread I wanted to refer you to.

It is quite long but worth a read - in any event the summary of the recommendations on doing safe power supplies is in the first post,

Really recommend what @nickrout just posted. Otherwise the whole thing really is a ticking time bomb the fire department could pick up out of the dirt one day. Which you really don’t want, it isn’t worth it.

Yep fiddling with mains is not only a danger to yourself, but also your occupants and visitors, the fire department, your neighbours not to mention the biggest investment most people ever make (ie their home).

By the way, nice case and overall design.

Also I understand that the Meanwell IRM series power supplies have the appropriate fusing and safety features built in. I remember asking something about them and getting a good response. They are used in haswitchplate - the discussion may be in that thread, but I can’t find it now.

I used them in my fan control plates waaaay back in the early days of sonoff control for wife. I also use them in my business to step down 240 to 5v in the detection of relay activation for machine control applications good product.

The company is polish so only EU versions are available.

Good point. This is area to improve this design. Once things get better I’ll update it.

However I would not said its a must. I’ve opened multiple AC/DC converters and non of them had a fuse, maybe cause most things are now made in china with lowest cost possible

That’s why houses burn down sometimes. But the choice is yours of course. Dryers are usually more hazardous if not cleaned regularly.

True, this is why I’m going to upgrade it. Thanks for pointing it.
