Wifi devices becomes repeatedly unavailable in HA

Hello folks,

this is my first post. First of all thanks for your help!

I’m using Home Assistant (latest version) since 6 months with Zigbee2mqtt,Shelly and Tasmota integrations/Addons.

Home Assistant is virtualized in Proxmox on a X64 machine. Everything is running fine but a couple of weeks ago I have discovered problems when I integrate my first Tasmota devices, later I have seen this failure also for ESPHome and Shelly devices.

General Problem: I have discovered connection problems (ping request from Laptop failed and sensor status in HA switched to “unavailable”) for Shelly and Tasmota devices very often.

At First I have found out a partial solution by deactivating an ESPhome node which was send a lot of sensor data but after a while the problem occured again. It affects only wifi devices and not zigbee sensors. I did an additional check and found out that also when I start listening radio (addon Logitech Media Server) the connection problems occur again.

After deactivating the addon in HA I was able to hear radio without seeing connection problems by the Shelly or Tasmota devices.

It seems to me that HA is not able to handle all sensor information sometimes but my setup is very small so I expect the failure somewhere in my system.

Hopefully you can give me a tip or hint because I’m running our of ideas here… :frowning:

If you need more data/information please feel free to ask!

Thanks and greetings,

Are you sure all your devices are getting unique IP addresses, either manually statically-assigned or via DHCP? If the latter, is your subnet big enough to ensure the router isn’t having to move devices to new IPs?

Hi Troon,

all devices have a static address configured. Routing and DHCP is managed by OPNSense also virtualized. My WIFI “Router” are working only in Access-Point Mode.

Greetings,

Hy,

does nobody has some ideas about this issue?
