WiFi Heatmap Visualization in Home Assistant

I made a short video showing how to create a WiFi signal heatmap in Home Assistant using the Zircon3D add-on.

In the demo, I use WiFi signal strength entities from end devices (Tapo devices in my case), but the same approach works with any numeric entities, WiFi test sensors, end devices, or even template sensors.

Once mapped onto a 3D floorplan, the heatmap makes it very easy to spot weak coverage areas compared to reading raw signal values.

Video demo:

Curious if others here visualize WiFi coverage, and what methods or sensors you’re using.

I used an addon in Valetudo called Valeronoi to map my house wifi while the robot vacuum did its thing.

Downstairs map where the robot is only connected to one AP pretty much in the middle of the map:

That’s a brilliant use case.
Using the robot as a moving WiFi tester makes a lot of sense, especially since it already covers the whole floor. It sounds like a perfect data source for this kind of heatmap. It really helps spot weak areas and see how a single AP in the middle affects coverage. Thanks for sharing, that’s a great idea.
