Im looking at switching ISP and they will send me a new router but i will still set it up with same wifi ssid etc but thats not my question as i hardwire my dedicated mini pc HA to it. my question is will this mess up the ip address etc of my HA ad stop it working? Im not an overly tech person so simple answers only please hahaha
Your new router WILL assign a new IP address, but you can always access your HA device via http://homeassistant.local:8123 if you are assigning the same SSID. After that, adjust settings based on the new IP. Setting a static IP via your router for the HA device is a good idea.
If you have connectivity issues, use an ethernet connection from the router to the HA device to make any necessary network adjustments.
Well it is overall better to use dedicated router for local wifi and isp provider router as a gateway to internet with wifi disabled.
But you can use just provider router.
Will this mess up static ip address for ha. Well maybe. It depends on default ip range for lan. One can have ie. 192.168.1.x and another 192.168.10.x
By default this new router will probably have different ip range then old one so you will have to just change ip address on your ha to match ip range of a new router.
