Hi, I currently have Home Assistant ZHA running on my Asustor Flashtor 6 with a sonoff Zigbee 3.0 Dongle P in my bedroom, I would like to move the NAS downstairs so that it isn’t heating my room up, I’m disabled so I have a Zigbee Light Switch, Zigbee button, Zigbee Temp & Humidity Sensor and 4 Zigbee Plugs, I have a mesh network system, 1 in my room and 1 where I want to put the NAS downstairs, could I put NAS downstairs and replace the sonoff dongle with a network dongle like the SONOFF Dongle Max, connect that to my Mesh via ethernet and get the NAS downstairs to recognise it and connect to HA like my current usb dongle does
Check out SMLIGHT SLZB coordinators as a possible solution.
is that a better solution than the Sonoff Dongle Max
I have no experience with the Sonoff Dongle Max so hopefully others using/testing that coordinator chime in.
do you use the SMLIGHT
Yes sir, have tested quite a few models and use several in my ZigBee network.
Currently running a MR2 and two SLZB-06s in router mode. I have an 06M and 06p7, but they were purchased for testing when those models were first on the market. I tend to stick to the TI chips.
would they work just like my current dongle except over my lan not usb
Yup, it just requires modifications to ZHA or you Z2M config.
Here is a link to the manual
what mods to zha
Just the device config using these steps
thsnk you so much, so basically I just need to do the following
- unplug current usb dongle from nas
- move nas downstairs and connect it to mesh router via ethernet
- plug SMLIGHT into my Bedroom mesh router via ethernet and connect usb to power socket
- open ha and hopefully its auto discovered then follow instructions
- ha zha setup complete and working like it is now
Yes sir! I run HA on a Synology rack NAS and also have a Mesh WIFI system. If you have any issues just reach out and I’ll assist you with any problems you run into.
Thank you so much
Just so you don’t run into any nasty surprises with steps 4 & 5 above. Your ZHA is already configured, so you might have to reconfigure / migrate for it to pick up the new coordinator.
Worst case scenario is that you’ll have to delete ZHA & start setup & pairing devices from scratch. With 7 devices, it’s not a huge deal, but given your condition, it might be.
Just wanted you to be aware of what could happen in case you need someone around to help when you decide to do that.
thanks for your concern, fortunately I live with family who can help with the pairing process if need be
is there a specific SMLIGHT I should get
Are you considering or have matter or z-wave devices?
I always suggest the SLZB-06 with the CC2652P chip. It is extremely stable with ZHA and Z2M. Worst case scenario it becomes a future router if your ZigBee mesh grows to 50+ devices. That will most likely necessary considering you can convert your Sonoff dongle to a router/repeater using Sonoff’s official online flasher.
I would avoid the SLZB-06M. It is very finicky from my experience!
thank you, I haven’t really thought about matter/z-wave but could be useful in future, thanks for the link
You will not be disappointed in the SLZB-06 with the CC2652P chip.
I’ve own a few and this isn’t the complete list ![]()
what is the difference between the bottom 2
