Window or door contact open/closed instead on/off

Hello everyone,

Can someone explain to a newbie in HA how to teach my window or door contact so that it displays open/closed instead of off in the dashboard?

I tried searching but only found something from 2023. A lot has happened since then.

Is the contact sensor a binary_sensor?

If so you can change the Show As Here

Go to the entity settings in your dashboard. There’s a Show As option with a drop-down where you can select window or door
