Wired esp8266

Dear community

I would like to use some esp8266’s and esphome for buttons + temperature at the doors around the house, but I can’t use wifi. Is there another way to connect them to home assistant and turn off wifi on the esp8266 card?

The esp32 supports ethernet.

Yeah, you’ll only find ESP32’s. The ESP8266 does not have enough gpio for this (timing might be an issue too).

I had hoped that you could do something with the rx and tx pin or maybe the usb port, but I’m no expert.

No, it requires quite a few more pins than that to interface to an Ethernet module. e.g. ten pins for the Quinled Ethernet Hat:
