) the utility company has started swapping out old pulse counter water meters. The ones they roll out do not have possibility to attach pule reader-heads and they are wireless, end to end encrypted ones.
Seems like the only way to monitor water consumption is to install our own wireless water meter in series to the utility one.
My question is:
Has anyone using Wireless Water meter for home assistant?
If yes,
- what make, where you bought it
- how often it sends data
- how long is the battery life.
The utility meters send data in like every 4 hours but they have battery lasting for 15 years.
I would be interested in a solution that sends data more often like every hour and battery last for a year or so.
Why couldn’t you install the old style pulse counter meter in series? Not that I prefer that though, new smart meters have many useful features like leak detection.
Wouldn’t it make more like 4 years?
Anyway, they often use “non-replaceable” battery and considering the price, it can become economically less convenient. Wireless connections and intervals are likely programmable.
Axioma Qalcosonic is quite common utility meter and one approach to read that via NFC has been already published on this forum. That meter would be good candidate for “series meter” as well, lot of features and really accurate.
