Wisdom smart-switch vs standby mode

I see a lot of people using a smart switch to turn of their equipment (printer, PC, TV).

I just makes me wonder, what uses more energy, the smart-switch or the standby mode of the unit being switched off

I looked up the specs for my printer, it should consume around 3 watt in standby mode, while my (wifi) smart switches should use approx 2 watt :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Has anyone ever measured the difference??
Do they actually save anything??

Or is it potato patato?
