Hey everyone,
I’m building an apartment atm and one of my main priorities is to ditch batteries in favor of a fully hard-wired solution.
The one piece that’s given me the most trouble: the lock setup. After loads of research I’ve landed on what “seems” like a good combo: a mortise lock plus a deadbolt for physical security when I’m away or sleeping; paired with an electric strike so during the day I can unlock the latch via Home Assistant (and HomeKit). Everything wired, no batteries.
Here’s the strike I’m leaning toward:

And here’s the mortise lock I found:

If you’ve got opinions about these, or better suggestions for strike + lock pairings (especially ones built for the “mortise + deadbolt + strike” use case) I’d honestly appreciate them, as I am way over my head. I’m not in the US, small south american country, so there is no local expertise to hire for this.
I settled on the strike because it claims dual functionality: the mortise latch works normally, and the deadbolt can lock the door fully when needed. That seemed perfect for residential use where I want convenience and nightl security. The lock I think might be a bit more expensive the necessary, but I am no professional.
Here’s how I see it working:
- Fail-open strike (unlocked unless powered).
- External access via NFC or keypad through a doorbell G6 panel (no lever handle).
- Internal access by simply pulling the lever — nothing extra to press or remember in an emergency.
- Controlled by a UA Hub from Ubiquiti: Access Door Hub - Ubiquiti Store
- Default state locked at all times, but I’ll have Home Assistant automations that unlock it during the day for short windows (around 15 minutes) under certain conditions as to not overload the strike.
So, the big questions from those of you with access control experience:
-
In your experience, is this feasible? (I understand it would be expensive) does pairing a mortise-plus-deadbolt with an electric strike hold up? Are there any gaps in my plan?
-
Would you do anything differently for a wired home assistant compatible solution?
I’m willing to spend more if the result is robust, low-maintenance, and truly hard-wired. Any real-world advice, photos of your installs, or recommended hardware would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance!
